Elemental Shadow
Such a lot of textures make up the shadow
self! I realize this morning that to keep
blogging these days I need to make
something very easy and quick,
and fun.

Chatham Sidewalk
This is part of an image that will be stuffed into a
vinyl "brick" and hung with other bricks over part
of bank in Chatham that sports a pretty awful facade.
The artist that organized and got funding for this project,
Melissa Sarris, turned her dislike for what was into a project
that invited the town to comment, be creative, and alter the facade.

Daily walk, Lilly from the garden
I was surprised when I saw first saw
the saturated colors in this photo.
I spend many hours changing colors
when designing jewelry, making images more
and less intense, different hues, sizes and shapes.
So it's a thrill to find something so intense all on it's own.

Today
Today I'm tired, cranky, and hot, without
an inclination to lead the way. So I'll just
post yesterdays inclination.

Subtracting
So next....I subtracted the original colors by adding lines. I'm seeing more and more
how subtracting and adding coexist. This is useful for me to notice in my life.
When I leave something behind, or subtract it either willingly or reluctantly.
there is a new something that is added, whether I can embrace it or not.

Addition and Subtraction
I took a lot of fan photos a few days ago and experimented with making simple
changes. I added line, changed color, added a few polka dots and squiggly lines.
All of these turned out to be subtracting part of the last image as well.

Enthusiasm, Experimenting and Channeling
Today I walked into my small art making
/relaxing room and there was beautiful
bright light shining on the table. Just the
type for playing with shadows, which I
find fascinating. Here's one photo. I love
how the background became bleached,
and the shadow became saturated.with
color.

Channeling, Day 1
This came out of a project that I enthusiastically
agreed to be part of about a month ago. The
idea was to have townspeople transform the facade
(in miniature) of a particularly ugly bank in Chatham.
We were given a photocopy of the facade, and I looked
at it for weeks, with no clue about what to do with it.
Finally, I just sat down and doodled, did the next thing,
followed the next impulse, folded, cut and pasted. I thought
about doodling, how for me it means getting out of my own
way, letting go of self judgment, listening, looking. Channelling.

Repetition
This is a painting I made long ago that I came across
recently, having to do with a flying dream. I wondered
what it would look like recolored. I think mostly I
find that I like the original impulse best, but
sometimes changing the color is
wonderfully surprising.

Repetition
I like experimenting with repetition.
These images are just barely different,
and the shadow creates a pattern
that makes it interesting to me.

2 Distorted folk
Distortion is a word that I have thought
of mainly as if it had a negative connotation.
Playing with the concept this week, I find
it generative instead. I can distort images
intentionally to have a greater range
of possibilities and more fun!

Distortion
This is a distortion of the May 30 post.
Sometimes distortion makes it interesting
in a different way, or more useful, or wilder.
or funnier. In this case it might become an earring.

Intentional Distortion
This twisty paper thing's purpose is to
invite people to distort it's original shape.
(and the shadows do a nice job of responding too)
I think of all the ways that I enjoy distorting what is,
and watching it change into something else. And all
the times I've wanted things to please stay in their 'natural' state.

Parts making whole
These are old earring material trials that
were not used, or extras.
New materials for something else!

Whole piece and cutout parts
This is the first week I'm recycling old
drawings and I really like it! The parts
take on their own flavor.

Whole and parts/ rearanged
This is an old drawing, and I re-
arranged the parts, which
cooperated in becoming
this satisfyingly odd
figure.
